FYI: We have a problem with space on our blog (seems we have already used all our gb) so cant upload anymore pics :( but be sure to check facebook on the meantime.
Place: Room 14, Margerina Apartments in Perissa, Santorini
Time 16:15
08:03: Wake my gorgeous husband to join me for a quick jog along the smokey
black beach sand and glistening water
08:10: Realise that there is no electricity and water which means we may not be
able to shower when we get back for our meeting at 09:00
08:30: Climb out of running gear and into suitable attire for the days activities.
08:45: Dying for a cup of tea
09h00: Craig heads down to meet the guys who we are renting a car from for the
next 2 days. They are super jacked up here and brought the car and
paperwork to us (even though they are just across the street, still
amazing service)
09:03: Beep Beep, and a ghrrrrrrr sound are music to my ears as the water and
electricity are back on.
09:03: Fill the kettle and switch it on
09:08: Craig returns to a cup of coffee awaiting him and we start the day happy.
The weather is not fantastic, so dressing for the day is not as simple of a task for me as it is for Craig.
Will I need a scarf? Should I pack a pair of shorts? Should I rather wear shorts and take longs instead? What about a rain jacket? The sun seems to be poking through the clouds, should I pack my bikini? Hat..is it too windy for a hat?
Yep, these are just a few of the things that popped into mind while getting ready for the day, but you can never go wrong with tights, a jersey, rain jacket and hat.
By 09:45 we were packed and in our little Green Cheverolet Matiz concentrating on staying on the right side of the narrow road and using a manual left hand drive, meant that for the first 10minutes, Craig was in concentration mode, after 10 minutes (if that long) he had the hang of it and I had to eventually ask him to slow down….’boys and their toys’.
We winded up and down, over and around, little roads, dodging speeding cars, bikes and people. It was an epic road trip, of exquisite views in every direction. From village to village, we drove on route to the famous Oia.
As we arrived, we could feel the buzzing of excitement from the people passing and found the safest and quickest parking and hurried up the long white stairways until we got to the top.
I was left in wonder at the views and the little village cascading down the hill to meet the water. We took a right and walked to the point of the island, admiring the different apartments and cafes in the background. This place is even more beautiful in person, as it has so much more ‘character’ than what the pictures and postcards portray. There is a rustic element, where things aren’t all finished and gives it more ‘personality’.
Hungers grow, but not enough to eat in this place as it cost 6 Euros just for a coffee. Also we have enjoyed finding little spots off the beaten track (and so has our wallet) that we headed to find a bakery and run into more little villages on the way home.
It has been a lovely and scenic day where we have really enjoyed the freedom of having a car again and being able to ‘come and go’ whenever we like and we look forward to doing it all over again tomorrow.
I am doubtful that we will get an early run in the morning, as Margerita (runs our hotel) is taking us to a spot where the locals hang out. It was an opportunity not to be missed so we are being picked up at 11:45pm….YIKES.
