Place: Amazing apartment at Hotel Angela, in lounge watching Craig scoff
down a toasted cheese and tomato Sarmie which he made himself
while I have my first cup of REAL tea in 2 weeks
Time: 20:28pm
WE ARE IN GREECE!!! Rhodes Island to be exact and it is beautiful.
I have dreamed of visiting this land of olives, greek goddesses, donkeys, cheeses, baklava, creepy mustaches together with greased back hair and a vision of the Blue and white striped flag flying.
YAY for me (and Craig of course)…YAY FOR US!!!!
As expected, today was not a very eventful day, so much so, that we didn’t even manage to take a picture…not even one J
However, I have decided to make my own illustrations accompanying the highlights of the day for your pleasure.
Highlight 1: Craig got a haircut.
We walked the streets of Fethiye in search of the best price as we had a total of 25 Lira (R100) which would have to last us the day. We filled our water bottle at a public tap (saved 1 Lira), we shared a coke (saved 2 Lira), the weather was miserable and windy and I decided to skip the my last Turkish Ice Cream (4 Lira) for a beautiful Turkish ‘koeksister’ treat for 1 Lira (saved 3 Lira) and Craig got 2 banana’s, an apple and a packet of peanuts for 5 Lira…all this meant we had enough cash to get my man a new ‘do'.
Highlight 2: Finished my book
It wasn’t amazing, it wasn’t bad…I just always get super exited when i see book swaps that I race through the book I am reading in order to change it for a new book.
Highlight 3: ‘The Turkish Koeksister’
This amazing delight can’t go without a special mention. It is so magical as the syrup oozes from the crunchie surrounding and drips onto your fingers, hands and clothes, leaving small, sticky reminders of it pure pleasure.
Highlight 4: Got on Ferry to Rhodes
With no hassles at all, we arrived at ‘customs’, got the stamp and boarded as we anxiously waiting for the ferry to roar up its engines and take us to Rhodes
Highlight 5: Didn’t Barf on the ferry
It was a horrific ride and we couldn’t wait to get onto land….any land. While closing our eyes and concentrating on anything else except the rolling up and over the ‘humongous’ waves, while hearing the wretching of fellow passengers into their little black plastic bags.
Highlight 6: Arriving in Greece
Slowly we began to feel the ferry slowing down and opened our eyes to what looked like an island surrounded by gigantic castle walls and the attractive blue and white Greek flag flying from it. We have finally arrived.
We jumped into the first taxi that came our way, shared it with an elderly British couple who I am sure also got ripped of by the driver.
Donna: How much?
Driver: 5 Euro
Donna: But the metre says 2.98 Euro?
Driver: Yes but the metre doesn’t include bags and things
Donna to Craig: (shrug of shoulders) I tried
But this was all soon forgotten as we arrived to Hotel Angela and made our way to our wonderful ‘self catering’ apartment, where we can make our own food, coffee, tea and whenever we want. It has everything, blender, toaster, kettle, pots, pans, fridge, stove and now a stocked fridge with goodies for breakfast.
I am already exited to wake up and make my own cup of tea with some cookies that we bought from the nearest little supermarket.
Goodnight all J
